Iranians, USA News (London / Tehran): Four anonymous Iranians have risked their lives to describe the mental torture and severe oppression of living under the Islamic regime following joint US and Israeli military strikes earlier this year. Speaking to GB News, the sources detailed a society at breaking point, caught between the aftermath of devastating attacks and fears of further conflict.

Before the war broke out in February, daily life was already oppressive, marked by joint US and Israeli strikes ordered by Donald Trump aimed at deposing the country’s rulers and destroying its nuclear threat. Following weeks of attacks and thousands of deaths, an uneasy ceasefire took hold. However, as citizens wait to see if further military action will occur, conditions continue to deteriorate, fueling widespread depression and hopelessness.

The identities of the four individuals have been withheld for their safety. Their testimonies paint a consistent picture of a nation gripped by waiting. “The feeling of the Iranian people right now is waiting,” said one shop owner. “And this waiting causes depression. Iranian society is very sad at the moment.” Another source noted, “Everyone is hopeless and depressed,” adding that they have “no sense of security at all.”

Despite the prevailing fear and uncertainty, some citizens express a quiet defiance and hope that the government will eventually fall. One source stated that people are waiting for an opportunity to take to the streets. Another source expressed cautious optimism that international communication channels will eventually open, allowing for a better future.

Economic Strain and Rising Costs

Day-to-day survival has become increasingly difficult amid soaring inflation. One man estimated inflation at over 300 percent, citing an example where the price of a Peugeot 207 rose 15 percent in a single day. Running a business has grown harder as purchasing power drops.

“Life has become very difficult,” the shopkeeper said. “For 60 to 70 per cent of people, it’s only about getting food and essential necessities. I have a shop myself, and I see how people’s purchasing power has dropped.” As social structures fracture, sources reported rising corruption, theft, and fraud, while some merchants profit from price hikes amid a lack of government price oversight.

Fears of Future Conflict and International Perceptions

The prevailing sentiment among those interviewed is that the near future remains bleak, with some predicting an imminent major war held back only by political maneuvering and upcoming elections in the US and Israel. Concerns regarding potential famine and massacres in the event of renewed conflict were also raised.

Public opinion regarding Britain and European nations is divided. Some sources criticized Britain, accusing it of failing to support the Iranian people and acting out of fear of domestic assassinations linked to Iran. Conversely, others expressed hope, praising British leadership for taking harsh positions and decisive action against the Islamic Republic’s terrorism and sabotage.

As uncertainty persists, the overriding fear among the sources is that they have been forgotten by the outside world. Their primary glimmers of hope remain potential foreign intervention against the regime and the eventual resurgence of popular protests inside the country.
