Iranians trapped under brutal regime, USA News: Four Iranians, risking their lives to speak out, have described the mental torture of being trapped in the war-torn Islamic regime. Day-to-day life was oppressive before the devastating war that broke out in February, during which cities and military sites were blitzed by joint US/Israeli strikes across Iran, ordered by Donald Trump, with the aim of deposing the country’s rulers and destroying their nuclear threat. After weeks of relentless attacks and thousands of deaths, an uneasy ceasefire began, but things are going from bad to worse as people wait to see if the President presses the attack button once again.

The identities of the four sources, all opposed to the current rulers, have been withheld for their safety. Their testimonies describe a country at breaking point, with an eerily similar mood on the streets. One shop owner stated that society is waiting and that the waiting causes depression, noting that Iranian society is very sad at the moment. Another source remarked that everyone is hopeless and depressed and that they have no sense of security at the near future.

Economic Collapse and Inflation

Day-to-day life is increasingly difficult, with one man putting inflation at over 300 per cent, an unverifiable figure that reflects the stark reality faced in shops. The source described considering buying a Peugeot 207 car, only to watch the price rise 15 per cent in a single day, declaring that life there is truly hell. Running shops fairly has become challenging, with the shopkeeper observing despair in the eyes of his customers. For 60 to 70 per cent of people, life is only about securing food and essential necessities as purchasing power drops.

As society fractures and the government loses control, corruption, theft, and fraud are increasing. While everyone tries to adapt, some merchants and shopkeepers are making large profits from price hikes amid a complete lack of government oversight.

Fears of Imminent War and Famine

The striking feeling from all four sources was that the near future will not improve, with one predicting a major war is imminent as they watch political maneuverings in Israel and the US. The sources noted that everyone is waiting for elections in America and Israel to pass. Alongside fears of renewed war come concerns about basic survival, with warnings that famine and massacres could lie ahead if fighting resumes.

Despite the fear, dislike of the ruling regime is growing, and none of the four expressed faith in the country’s leaders, whom one described as the killer of Iran’s youth. While some sources expressed frustration over Britain and Europe’s perceived fear of Iranian assassinations and historical policies, others took brief hope from recent foreign political positions. Ultimately, all four feared being forgotten as they await foreign intervention and the potential start of popular protests inside the country.
