Querétaro Día de Muertos cemetery visits, Digi Mart USA News (Querétaro, Mexico): About 140,000 people visited the eight cemeteries in the municipality of Querétaro over November 1 and 2 to honor relatives and loved ones who have passed away during the Día de Muertos celebrations.
At the Cimatario cemetery, the busiest in the state, the scent of cempasúchil and terciopelo flowers filled every corner of the grounds. Families arrived early both days, walking the long rows of graves, each marked by its own story and memories.
Most visitors brought flowers, while others carried buckets of water and cleaning tools to clean the headstones of their relatives. Food, drinks, candles and photographs also formed part of the traditional ritual, and over the two days the gray cemetery landscape was transformed into a multicolored scene dominated by orange.
Music was also part of the observances. Some families celebrated with live bands or guitars, while others brought small portable speakers to play the songs their loved ones enjoyed during their lives.
In the center of the cemetery, families gathered to pray and offer prayers for the rest of their deceased relatives. Although nostalgia was present, the atmosphere also carried a sense of celebration, joy and reunion with loved ones.
According to the Municipal Civil Protection Coordination, about 40,000 people attended the municipal cemeteries on November 1, the Day of All Saints, while the figure for November 2 exceeded 100,000 attendees. Before the cemetery visits, the agency also inspected gas and electrical installations at more than 400 stalls and vendors on public roads, and no significant incidents were reported.
