Mexico City Universal Animal Welfare Booklet proposal, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): To strengthen the living conditions, health, care and protection of companion animals in Mexico City, PT local deputy Jannete Guerrero Maya has proposed implementing the “Universal Animal Welfare Booklet.” The booklet would allow the specific needs of each species to be considered for proper care.
“This means that if we change veterinarians, we can continue their treatments without losing important information. When a family adopts an animal, they can learn its medical history and provide the care it needs from the very first moment,” the lawmaker explained.
The deputy said she presented a reform initiative to the Law for the Protection and Welfare of Animals of Mexico City. Under the proposal, the booklet would be promoted through the Animal Care Agency, in coordination with health and animal welfare authorities.
Speaking from the rostrum of the Antiguo Palacio de Donceles, Guerrero Maya said the booklet must include identification data and the Single Registry of Companion Animals (RUAC) key; clinical history; vaccination, deworming and sterilization schedule; treatments and procedures performed; any prevention, protection and care measures; and information on the veterinarian with a professional license.
The lawmaker said the booklet could be issued in physical or digital format and would be linked to the RUAC, with the aim of enabling close monitoring of veterinary care so that treatments are not left incomplete and an animal’s background is not overlooked.
“Caring for those who give us unconditional love and companionship means not only guaranteeing safe environments, but also implementing tools so that care is more agile, with information that can make the difference between a dignified life and suffering,” the deputy emphasized.
