Mexico City Metro Line B fire stranded passengers Ecatepec, Digi Mart USA News (Ecatepec, Mexico): Thousands of commuters were left stranded Wednesday morning after a fire in exterior cabling forced the suspension of Line B of the Metro between Ciudad Azteca and Oceanía, according to the source report.
According to the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo, the incident occurred early Wednesday near the Oceanía–Deportivo Oceanía interstation, presumably caused by trash burning in the area outside the tracks. The fire damaged the cabling, so only service between Buenavista and Oceanía remained operational.
The disruption directly affected users from Ecatepec, Nezahualcóyotl and Tecámac, who use the line daily to reach their workplaces and schools in Mexico City.
In response to the emergency, the governments of Ecatepec and Nezahualcóyotl implemented emergency operations. Public security patrols, Mexicas units and municipal vehicles in Ecatepec provided free transport from Ciudad Azteca to Oceanía, and the municipal Traffic Department deployed personnel to speed circulation along Avenida Central.
The Metro reported that it enabled units of the Red de Transporte de Pasajeros (RTP) to support users, while specialized personnel work to repair the damage and restore full service.
As of the time of the publisher’s report, the Ciudad Azteca–Oceanía section remained without service, and authorities recommended that commuters plan ahead and seek alternative routes.
