Jesuits in Mexico dedicate Day of the Dead altar to murdered searching mothers and priests, Digi Mart USA News: As part of the Day of the Dead observances, the Society of Jesus in Mexico set up an altar in memory of searching mothers, known as madres buscadoras, who were killed, and of priests who lost their lives violently in the country between 2021 and 2026.
The Jesuits of Mexico announced the initiative through their social media accounts, paying tribute to those killed amid the violence affecting the country.
The altar seeks to keep the memory of the victims alive and to recall the struggle of the searching mothers, who have dedicated their efforts to locating missing relatives, as well as the testimony of priests killed while carrying out their ministry.
“May their memory sustain hope and call us to demand justice and build peace,” the Society of Jesus said in its message, stressing the importance of remembering the victims and maintaining its commitment to justice and peace in Mexico.
With this offering, the Jesuits join other expressions of remembrance and prayer associated with Day of the Dead, a date that also invites reflection on the dignity of every human life, comfort for those who suffer, and the need to work toward a society free of violence.
