Daniel Saborío bronze medal Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games swimming, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): Swimmer Daniel Saborío won the bronze medal in the men’s 400-meter freestyle at the IV Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026, earning the first medal for the Mexican delegation at the youth competition.
Saborío Grillo stopped the clock at 3 minutes, 52.72 seconds to take the podium. He finished behind Rami Alrahmouni of Saudi Arabia, who swam 3:47.86, and Russia’s Bogdan Toropkin, who recorded 3:50.46.
The 17-year-old from Nuevo León arrived in the Senegalese capital after a strong run at the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, where he won three medals. Those included an individual silver in the 800-meter freestyle and two gold medals as part of the 4×200-meter freestyle and mixed 4×100-meter freestyle relays.
His earlier achievements earned him one of two flag-bearer roles for the Mexican delegation of 62 athletes. In his Youth Olympic Games debut, Saborío placed fifth in the 100-meter freestyle.
He is scheduled to conclude his participation on November 6 in the 200-meter freestyle.
The Mexican delegation traveled to Africa amid controversy over the lack of economic support from the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport (Conade) to finance travel and participation costs for Mexican athletes in Dakar. In exchange, the federal government promised scholarships to all members of the delegation.
