Correos de México, USA News: International packages destined for any of the 27 European Union countries will be subject to new customs regulations starting November 1, 2026. On this date, new charges and taxes will enter into force for shipments containing products valued below 150 euros. Correos de México disseminated this information to warn users about the costs they must anticipate.
The new framework establishes a fee of three euros for each product included in a package that falls below the specified value. It also includes a two-euro customs management fee for each type of product, alongside any additional taxes established by the receiving country.
Shipments containing exclusively documents will not be required to cover these concepts. Correos de México clarified that the measures were determined by the authorities of the member countries of the European Union and are not charges established by the Mexican postal organization.
Payment Responsibilities by Destination Country
The regulations also establish differences regarding who must make the payments, depending on the destination. When packages are directed to Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, or Sweden, the sender will be responsible for covering them.
Meanwhile, for shipments arriving in Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, or Finland, the payment of the tariff will correspond to the recipient.
Exchange Rates and Support Channels
The institution specified that any tax that must be covered in Mexico will be paid in Mexican pesos, based on the prevailing euro exchange rate at the time of shipping. It also noted that the provisions are subject to possible modifications by the authorities of each country, advising users to consult the information before conducting an operation.
To verify updated charges, Correos de México enabled its official website as a reference at www.gob.mx/correosdemexico. Users can also request information through toll-free numbers 800 701 7000 and 800 701 4500, available for nationwide assistance.
