ASF expands corruption investigation into INE, Digi Mart USA News: Mexico’s Superior Audit Office (ASF) has added a review of historical contracts of the former Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) to its investigations into the National Electoral Institute (INE). The authority announced the move Thursday morning.
In a statement, the ASF said it is developing three main lines of work. The first is an ex officio investigation into various irregularities in public procurement by all local electoral bodies (OPLEs), as well as the INE and the former IFE.
The audit office has also carried out a historical study of acquisitions by the IFE, INE and all OPLEs from 2000 to 2025. The aim is to identify and publicize patterns of contracting, supplier concentration and illegal practices in the use of public resources by business groups and/or public officials.
The ASF is also conducting a comprehensive audit of the INE and of all federal spending executed by the OPLEs. According to the statement, intelligence work and an analysis of information requested from the states indicate multiple historical irregularities in public spending linked to the OPLEs, the INE and the IFE, the agency said.
