Clermont-Ferrand fire, USA News (Clermont-Ferrand, France): Three bodies were discovered on Saturday morning, October 31, in the ruins of a downtown building in Clermont-Ferrand, Puy-de-Dôme, following a destructive fire that broke out overnight between Thursday and Friday, according to information obtained by ICI Pays d’Auvergne from the fire department. A fourth resident of the building remains unaccounted for.
The Clermont-Ferrand public prosecutor’s office stated that initial findings by investigators suggest a potential criminal origin for the fire. A 21-year-old man was arrested on Friday morning and placed in police custody as an ongoing investigation gets underway.
The blaze erupted during the night from Thursday to Friday, requiring extensive hours of firefighting operations. The flames destroyed the building’s roof, while the stairwell and multiple upper floors suffered collapses. Search operations in the debris could not begin until Friday at 6:30 p.m., once the scene was fully stabilized by emergency crews. It was during these subsequent searches that the three bodies were uncovered.
