German youth, USA News (Berlin, Germany): Protests are scheduled across approximately thirty cities in Germany, following a call from a mysterious collective operating under the name “Gen Z makes the law.” Although large-scale demonstrations are not traditional in the country, the political class harbors concerns regarding potential unrest inspired by events on October 17 in France.

At the Free University of Berlin, a verdant campus reminiscent of American institutions and historically known as a hub for 1960s activism, current students are voicing demands for increased funding. Students including Chari, Victor, Tim, and Nicki have expressed their motivations. Chari remarked that observing events in France sparked a sudden realization of personal dissatisfaction. Victor highlighted the introduction of military service as a major grievance, criticizing the decision as one made without youth influence. Polling indicates that 55 percent of Germans under thirty years old oppose the return of military service, viewing it as an unfounded intrusion.

Tim concurred that decisions concerning society’s future are consistently made to the detriment of younger generations. Regarding official anxieties over potential clashes, Tim expressed doubt that a scenario mirroring France would unfold. Conversely, 21-year-old education student Nicki stated she does not fear disruptions, expressing hope for a large turnout and noting that property damage targeting major multinational corporations would be acceptable to her.

Law enforcement agencies are preparing for possible disturbances, particularly in Hamburg, Berlin, and Leipzig, recognized as strongholds of the radical left. Across Germany, multiple retail chains have protected downtown storefront windows with wooden boards for the day, while a perfumery chain announced that twelve of its branches will remain closed.
