Hervé Renard France women’s national team criticism, Digi Mart USA News (France): As the season is in full swing and the winter transfer window has not yet opened, Olympique Lyonnais is reportedly on the verge of losing coach Paulo Fonseca, who is expected to move to Sporting. The decision has been widely discussed in specialist media, prompting some observers to bring up older files, sometimes with little connection, that remain clearly fresh in people’s minds.

Former French international Charlotte Lorgeré, now a columnist on the L’Équipe channel, used her Monday appearance to revisit the case of Hervé Renard. The former coach of the French women’s national team did not manage to deliver the results expected from the Bleues.

After failing at the 2024 Olympic Games, he moved on to other projects, but his spell with the national team did not sit well with the commentator.

Lorgeré repeated her criticism. “Hervé Renard was there to ‘redorer l’équipe de France’ (restore the luster of the French team).

For me it was a scandal, and I said so from the start.” She went on to discuss the current coach of Ivory Coast: “It was a disaster, Hervé Renard.”

The former RC Lens player continued: “He even told a journalist at a party: ‘Me, at some point, if I can leave, whenever you want, the CV is open.’ No, but come on…” Renard had returned to the Saudi national team, which he had left a year and a half earlier to take charge of the Bleues.

Renard was dismissed in April 2026, a year and a half after his return, having accepted a mission with Tunisia in the middle of the 2026 World Cup. He announced his departure three weeks later after failing to qualify the side for the second round of the tournament.

He subsequently took charge of Ivory Coast, where he currently works.
