HBO Max Alice series Alice Guy-Blaché, Digi Mart USA News: HBO Max has released the official trailer for Alice, a six-episode series devoted to Alice Guy-Blaché, a pioneer of film directing. Bérénice Bejo, who won the César for Best Actress for The Artist, plays the title role.
The first three episodes will be available on the platform on Friday, December 4. Episodes 4 to 6 will follow on Friday, December 11, according to the schedule reported by Sortiraparis.
The series brings together two major figures of early French cinema. Thibaut Evrard plays Léon Gaumont, who guides the young woman’s early career, while Yannick Choirat plays Charles Pathé, presented as a competitor.
Oscar Lesage plays Herbert Blaché, who is both Alice’s husband and business partner. Irène Jacob plays Marie, her mother.
François Arnaud, Sophie Nélisse, Marc Barbé, Vincent Leclerc and Steve Driesen round out the cast.
The production presents Alice Guy-Blaché as the first woman to direct narrative films. She joined Gaumont as a secretary and directed La Fée aux choux in 1896, then ran the company’s fiction production until 1907.
That year she married Herbert Blaché and moved to New York. In 1910 she founded Solax in Flushing, which she headed.
The series follows her path from Paris to the United States, from directing to running a company.
The project is a co-production of France Télévisions and HBO Max, with Wild Bunch, Palermo Production, Panache Productions, La Compagnie Cinématographique in Belgium and Sphère Média in Canada. A France Télévisions statement published September 10, 2025 placed filming in Paris, Belgium, the Camargue and Canada.
Tim Loane and Claire Lemaréchal created the series, co-written with André Gulluni. Directing is shared by Virginie Verrier, known for Marinette, and Guillaume Lonergan, director of Empathie.
Alice is part of HBO Max’s investment in French creation, which is governed by a framework agreed with producers and authors. After its HBO Max run, the series will be broadcast by France Télévisions in 2027.
Neither the channel nor the date has been announced yet.
Other French fiction titles are expected on the platform, including Rush and Bodycam, two original series commissioned by HBO Max.
