SASSA Urges Grant Beneficiaries to Complete Reviews to Avoid Payment Suspension

SASSA grant reviews: SASSA grant reviews must be completed by beneficiaries to prevent potential payment suspensions, as the South African Social Security Agency urges recipients to maintain updated records, verify their grant statuses, and comply with official notification requirements promptly.

SASSA grant reviews, USA News: The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has issued a warning to social grant beneficiaries, stating that payments could be suspended if recipients fail to respond to official grant review notices and submit required supporting documents within the specified timeframe.

According to the agency, these reviews are critical for ensuring that financial assistance reaches eligible individuals while preventing irregular or fraudulent disbursements. Officials noted that compliance is required under applicable legislation and procedures.

Official Channels and WhatsApp Status Checks

SASSA has encouraged beneficiaries to proactively check whether their grants are under review rather than relying entirely on SMS notifications or other agency communications. Recipients can access online services by messaging “Hi” via WhatsApp to 082 601 0111.

This service enables beneficiaries to verify their grant status, access eLife Certification, and apply for social grants without needing to visit a physical SASSA office. The agency recommends regular use of this tool, particularly for individuals who are uncertain about their status or whether additional action is required.

Importance of Up-to-Date Personal Records

Beneficiaries are held responsible for responding to review requests and supplying necessary supporting documents within designated periods. SASSA emphasized that personal details must be updated whenever circumstances change, including alterations to cellphone numbers, marital status, financial situations, and residential addresses.

The agency warned that changing contact numbers without updating records risks missing important notifications regarding reviews and document requests.

November 2026 Payment Schedule Adjustments

In addition to the review warnings, SASSA clarified adjustments to the November 2026 social grant payment schedule, introduced as a once-off arrangement to address operational requirements for the upcoming Local Government Elections.

Grant TypePayment Date
Older Persons’ GrantsOctober 30, 2026
Disability GrantsNovember 2, 2026
Children’s GrantsNovember 3, 2026
Grants Under ReviewNovember 5, 2026

SASSA confirmed that payments for grants under review are scheduled for November 5, subject to review outcomes and confirmed eligibility. The agency stressed that these schedule modifications apply strictly to November 2026 and do not represent a permanent change, with subsequent payment dates from December 2026 to March 2027 remaining as previously announced.
