Tata Motors has officially brought back the much-loved Sierra nameplate, this time in a fully electric avatar.

The new Tata Sierra EV has been launched in India as a premium electric SUV, combining the familiar design identity of the original Sierra with modern technology, strong performance and a long driving range.

The Sierra EV was launched on June 30, 2026, with an introductory starting price of ₹18.79 lakh, ex-showroom.

Bookings opened on the same day, while deliveries began from July 15, 2026. The SUV is positioned between the Tata Curvv EV and the larger Tata Harrier EV in the company’s electric vehicle line-up.

Unlike the original Sierra, which became famous for its rugged styling and distinctive rear windows, the electric version has been developed for a new generation of buyers.

It aims to offer the practicality of a family SUV while adding the performance and quietness associated with electric mobility.

Bold Exterior Design With Modern Details

The Tata Sierra EV retains the boxy and upright stance that made the original model memorable.

However, the production version has been given a more modern appearance with connected LED lighting, flush-fitting door handles, large alloy wheels and a clean front design.

The SUV features a strong shoulder line, a wide glass area and a tall body that gives it a confident road presence.

At the rear, the design remains fairly upright, helping the Sierra EV maintain its traditional SUV character.

Tata has also added modern details such as illuminated lighting elements and a powered tailgate with gesture control.

Depending on the variant, the electric SUV is offered with R18 or R19 alloy wheels.

It is available in several exterior colours, including Pristine White, Pure Grey, Coorg Clouds, Bengal Rouge, Andaman Adventure and Rishikesh Rapids. The top Empowered A QWD variant also gets an exclusive Nainital Nocturne shade.

Spacious and Technology-Focused Cabin

Inside, the Sierra EV has been designed around the idea of a “LifeSpace” cabin. The dashboard features a triple-screen layout, giving the interior a more premium and futuristic appearance.

One screen serves as the driver’s display, while the other two are used for infotainment and passenger-focused functions.

The cabin also comes with a large panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, ventilated seats, a wireless charger and a powered co-driver seat with thigh support.

Tata claims that the SUV offers a 622-litre boot, making it suitable for family road trips and everyday luggage requirements.

Higher variants receive a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos, a digital head-up display and an in-car entertainment system.

The Arcade.ev suite adds multiple applications for entertainment during charging stops. The vehicle also supports connected features through Tata’s iRA.ev system, which offers remote vehicle controls, trip planning, charging information and over-the-air software updates.

Another notable feature is the EV route planner for Android Auto. The system can estimate battery levels at the destination, suggest charging stops and provide information about the expected charging time. This could make long-distance travel more convenient for new EV owners.

Battery Pack and Driving Range

The Tata Sierra EV is available with two battery pack options, including a 63kWh unit and a larger 75kWh battery.

The bigger battery pack is expected to be the preferred choice for buyers who regularly travel between cities.

The top-spec 75kWh version offers an ARAI-certified range of up to 665 kilometres on a single charge.

Tata Motors also claims a real-world C75 range of approximately 510–530 kilometres, although the actual figure will depend on driving style, traffic, weather, road conditions and the use of the air conditioner.

The company has equipped the SUV with fast-charging technology. Tata claims that the Sierra EV can add up to 263 kilometres of range in around 15 minutes under suitable charging conditions.

A 20–80 per cent charging session is claimed to take approximately 26 minutes. The SUV also supports Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Vehicle functions, allowing it to power compatible electrical equipment or share energy with another vehicle.

Powerful AWD Variant

The most powerful version of the Sierra EV uses a dual-motor setup with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

Tata refers to this arrangement as QWD, or Quad Wheel Drive. The system can distribute torque between the front and rear axles to improve traction on slippery or uneven surfaces.

The dual-motor version produces a claimed 306 PS and 504 Nm of torque. With Boost Mode activated, the Sierra EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in approximately 5.8 seconds. This makes it one of the quicker electric SUVs available in its price category.

The SUV also gets six terrain modes, including Snow, Mud, Sand, Rock Crawl, Normal and Custom settings.

An off-road assist function, around 205mm of ground clearance and a 540-degree surround-view camera further improve its ability to handle rough roads and tight parking areas.

However, these features should not be mistaken for a replacement for careful driving, especially on challenging terrain.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Safety is another major focus area for the new Tata Sierra EV. The higher variants come with Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems offering 22 driver-assistance functions.

These include features designed to provide additional support during highway driving, parking and traffic situations.

The SUV also gets electronic stability control, multiple airbags, a surround-view camera and blind-spot monitoring.

Tata’s e-Valet system adds automatic parking assistance, summon functionality and reverse assist. These features are intended to reduce stress in crowded urban parking areas.

As with every driver-assistance system, the technology is meant to support the person behind the wheel rather than replace driver attention.

The driver remains responsible for monitoring the road and controlling the vehicle at all times.

Tata Sierra EV Price and Competition

The Tata Sierra EV is priced from ₹18.79 lakh to ₹24.79 lakh, ex-showroom, depending on the variant and battery configuration.

The all-wheel-drive version is available on the top Empowered A variant and commands a premium over the rear-wheel-drive models. Home charger and installation costs may be additional.

The SUV competes with electric models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6 and selected versions of the Mahindra XEV 9e.

Its key strengths are the distinctive design, spacious cabin, long claimed range and availability of an all-wheel-drive option.

With the Sierra EV, Tata Motors is not simply adding another electric SUV to its portfolio. It is attempting to revive an emotional name and present it in a completely new form.

If the real-world range, charging performance and software features work as promised, the Sierra EV could become one of Tata’s most important electric launches in India.
