New York City FC vs. D.C. United match preview, Digi Mart USA News: New York City FC face D.C. United on Saturday, November 7, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 PM ET.

The club’s official site has published its Keys to the Match, presented by Ford.

Saturday’s clash will be the 27th meeting between the two clubs. New York City FC won the first game in 2015 by a score of 3-1 at Yankee Stadium, with goals from David Villa, Kwadwo Poku and Tommy McNamara.

The team’s first visit to the capital that same season ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat. New York City FC responded in the 2016 season with a 2-0 win at RFK Stadium, thanks to goals from Villa and Khiry Shelton.

More recently, D.C. United has proven to be a tricky opponent.

One win, two draws and two defeats have defined the most recent meetings. The last victory, at Citi Field in 2024, came from an early goal by Santi Rodríguez and an injury-time strike from Julian Fernández.

Historically, New York City FC has enjoyed the better of the rivalry, winning 12 matches, losing nine and drawing five. A goal on Saturday would be the 45th the club has scored against D.C.

United.

René Weiler has experimented with several formations during the 2026 campaign. In the reverse fixture he used a 4-3-3 system, but in recent weeks he has returned to a more familiar 4-4-2.

Often described as an “empty bucket” because of its two holding midfielders, the setup aims to make the most of transition opportunities by keeping the team narrow.

D.C. United’s last win came last month against Red Bull New York.

That direct style was fully on display, as the early penalty the team earned resulted from a move that used five passes to go from the D.C. half to the Red Bulls’ goal mouth.

New York City FC will need to be mindful of that threat and limit the transition opportunities it allows, so the contest does not become end-to-end.

The season for New York City FC will end well before the team hoped after it failed to make the playoffs. Despite that setback, fan support has remained as strong as ever, both home and away.

Coach Pascal Jansen and his players have voiced their appreciation for that support on a number of occasions during 2026.

The club expects that support to remain consistent again this weekend in the final competitive game of the year, and everyone at the club has said thank you once again.
