Viva Aerobus flight reductions due to Pratt & Whitney engine inspections, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): Mexican airline Viva Aerobus has reduced its flight frequencies for both domestic and international routes after a new preventive inspection requirement for Pratt & Whitney engines forced it to ground additional aircraft.
In a statement, the airline said it understands the inconvenience the situation may cause to passengers’ travel plans and regrets any disruptions. Viva Aerobus said it continues to work to minimize the impact, keep passengers informed and offer alternatives for any changes to their flights.
The company said it has informed the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) and airports about the adjustments resulting from reduced aircraft availability. It also advised passengers to check their itineraries before going to the airport through the “Flight Status” section of its website or app.
Passengers can also use the airline’s official digital channels for assistance and information on available alternatives.
Viva Aerobus said it is working with Pratt & Whitney to maximize aircraft availability and return engines to service as soon as possible. The airline cited the engine maker’s ongoing investments in maintenance, repair and overhaul capacity, engine production and technological improvements aimed at increasing durability and reducing maintenance times.
The engine problems affecting the Mexican carrier began in September 2023. Although the issue was initially expected to last two years, it has continued longer, and its effects have extended as well.
Volaris, another Mexican airline, has also been affected by the engine issue and has said it has held talks with Pratt & Whitney about receiving financial compensation.
