Racing Club Facundo Cambeses frustration after Barracas Central loss, Digi Mart USA News: Racing Club captain Facundo Cambeses expressed deep frustration after his team lost 2-0 to Barracas Central on Friday at the Estadio Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, in the final group-stage match of the Torneo Clausura.
The defeat ended a poor year for the Avellaneda club, which failed to qualify for the round of 16 and finished outside the international cup places. Speaking to ESPN, Cambeses said, “A year to forget, honestly.
Words are not enough. It’s very hard to analyze, I see everything as negative.”
The captain added that many things need to change and said he was still too upset to offer a full analysis immediately after the match. “We’re very upset, the match just ended and I can’t analyze it yet.
It hurts us a lot,” he said.
Earlier, after the loss to River Plate at the Monumental, Cambeses had called for self-criticism and said he accepted responsibility as captain. He pledged to help the team wherever he could.
Racing finished with just 15 points in the Clausura and ended 12th in Zone B. In the Apertura, the club had qualified eighth with 21 points but was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
In the annual standings, Racing accumulated 36 points and finished 23rd.
The team also struggled in the Copa Sudamericana, finishing third in Group E behind Botafogo and Caracas and being eliminated in the group stage. In the Copa Argentina, Racing reached the quarterfinals and was knocked out after a dramatic comeback by Boca Juniors.
