Zones d’ombre documentary series on Michel Fourniret unsolved murders on france.tv, Digi Mart USA News: “Zones d’ombre, les meurtres non élucidés de Michel Fourniret” is a six-episode documentary event series available starting Friday, November 27, 2026, on the France.tv platform. The series revisits crimes committed between 1987 and 2003 and recently reopened investigations surrounding the man nicknamed “the Ogre of the Ardennes.”

Nearly forty years after the first cases, the name of Michel Fourniret continues to haunt French judicial history. He was convicted on several occasions for a series of murders of young women and girls, and the serial killer died in May 2021 without revealing all of his secrets.

The series focuses on this unresolved part, following the investigations reopened in recent years.

Across its six chapters of 35 to 40 minutes each, the program examines the factors that long prevented justice from being served, including the absence of material evidence, partial confessions and fabricated alibis. It also highlights the decisive role of scientific advances and DNA matching, which from 2018 onward allowed cases believed to be closed to be reopened.

Several cases attributed to the Fourniret couple remained open long after the first convictions. Two investigations were conducted without prosecution, from 1994 to 1998 and from 2004 to 2009, before genetic matches changed the picture.

Monique Olivier, Fourniret’s former wife and accomplice, played a decisive role; by contradicting her husband’s alibi, she helped advance the disappearance case of Estelle Mouzin.

The series also covers the murders of Joanna Parrish and Marie-Angèle Domèce, which were long subject to a dismissal for lack of evidence before late confessions, and the 1997 disappearance of Cécile Vallin in Savoie, reopened at the end of 2022 by the Nanterre unit handling serial or unsolved crimes. Field searches in the Orne and Calvados regions are also featured in efforts to locate bodies never found.

Following Michel Fourniret’s death in 2021, Monique Olivier remains the principal person implicated in several cases still open. She was tried in Nanterre and assisted investigators in hopes of finding victims whose disappearances have never been clarified.

The series is produced by AMDA Production with France Télévisions, written by Lise David, Vincent Hérissé and Thierry Fournet, directed by Lise David and Thierry Fournet, with executive producer Guillaume Blanc, and draws on work by regional newsrooms of the ICI network.

The series is available in full on france.tv from November 27, 2026. Source note: based on a publisher article that was not independently verified.
