Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Toronto Blue Jays 2027 bounce-back with father’s coaching, Digi Mart USA News: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a season he would rather forget with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2026.
After an historic 2025 postseason run, Guerrero followed it with a disappointing campaign marked by a severe power outage. He managed only nine home runs and 57 RBIs, arguably the worst offensive output of his career.
Whether his offseason laser eye surgery will help remains to be seen. According to MLB insider Mike Rodríguez, however, another potential boost may come from home.
Vladimir Guerrero Sr. is reportedly stepping in to help his son, working more closely with Vladdy Jr.
and his brother Wilton Guerrero on his hitting this season.
As a former MVP, nine-time All-Star and eight-time Silver Slugger winner, Guerrero Sr. has plenty of hitting experience at the major league level.
He hit .300 or better in all but two of his 16 MLB seasons and posted a career OPS of .931. He consistently averaged more than 30 home runs and 100 RBIs per season while rarely striking out more than 95 times in a year.
Guerrero Sr. also rebounded from several down years.
In 2004 with the Anaheim Angels, he hit 39 home runs and drove in 126 runs after an injury-plagued season. In 2009, he hit 15 home runs and slugged .460 in what was considered a down year in his final season with the Angels.
The following year with the Rangers, he hit 29 home runs and slashed .300/.345/.496 with a 119 wRC+.
If Guerrero Sr. can instill some of that confidence in his son’s game, it could pay significant dividends for the Blue Jays.
Vladdy is expected to remain part of the Toronto organization for the next decade or more, and the club needs him to turn things around quickly. Another season of hitting .260/.332/.356 with a 95 wRC+ would fall short of expectations.
While the Blue Jays will also need to address the roster around him this offseason, much of Toronto’s success in 2027 could depend on how far Vladdy Jr. bounces back.
