Glenn Maxwell retirement from international and first-class cricket, Digi Mart USA News: Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from international and first-class cricket this week, ending a 15-year first-class career. He played seven Tests, 149 one-day internationals and 130 T20 internationals for Australia.

Maxwell will continue to play T20 cricket domestically, including for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. His career for Victoria and Australia is now over.

The 38-year-old had already retired from one-day international cricket and played the last of his seven Tests in 2017.

He had been hoping for one last T20 match for Australia at the MCG this summer, but that opportunity did not arise. Maxwell told the Final Word podcast there had been a small hope or discussion that he might get a send-off game at the MCG, but said he understood the direction the selectors were taking with the squad.

Maxwell scored over 7,000 runs and took 136 wickets at international level. He was part of World Cup-winning teams in 2015 (ODI), 2021 (T20) and 2023 (ODI).

He scored 10 centuries and 35 fifties for Australia across all formats, including an unbeaten 201 off 128 balls against Afghanistan at the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Maxwell said he expects significant change in the squad over the next 12 to 24 months, with the 2028 Olympics approaching. He said the team must give young players exposure to international pressure that cannot always be gained in BBL fixtures.

His wife, Vini Raman, posted a photo of her husband and their son Logan on social media, writing that it marked “the end of an incredible chapter” and praising his dedication, sacrifices and rehabilitation. Other players’ wives, including Amy Finch and Rachel Khawaja, also paid tribute to Maxwell’s career.
