Mexico vs Jamaica Rafael Marquez squad selection, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): Mexico’s squad for its first official matches under coach Rafael Márquez combines players in contrasting situations. Some are enjoying goal-scoring streaks and regular playing time at their clubs, while others have seen few minutes, are returning from injury, or are seeking to regain a place in their teams.

The 28 selected players will be tasked with securing a place in the Final Four of the 2026-2027 Concacaf Nations League against Jamaica. The list, presented Thursday, November 5, includes Julián Quiñones, who has scored 40 goals in 2026, Johan Vásquez, a starter and captain of Genoa, and Andrés Montaño, who has scored in five consecutive matches for Cruz Azul.

The squad includes eight players based in Europe, five from Guadalajara, four from América and three from Cruz Azul, along with players seeking to return to the national team after several months away. Among them is Rodrigo Huescas, who overcame an injury that kept him sidelined for a year, and Jesús “Tecatito” Corona, whose last appearance with the national team came in June 2022.

Mexico will face Jamaica on Saturday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. Mexico City time, at the National Stadium in Kingston, with the return leg on Tuesday, November 17, at 8:30 p.m.

at the Gigante de Acero. The national team will begin its training camp on Sunday, November 8, in the Riviera Maya and will travel to Jamaica on Thursday, November 12.

Goalkeepers include Óscar García (León), who has played 13 matches and 1,170 minutes in the Apertura 2026 with 45 saves and four clean sheets, though he has conceded 18 goals. Raúl Rangel (Chivas) has 14 matches, six clean sheets and a save percentage of 78.9%, and is one of the reasons Guadalajara has the stingiest defense in Liga MX, with 14 goals conceded in 15 matchdays.

Álex Padilla (Athletic Club) has not displaced Unai Simón as LaLiga’s starter; his recent activity includes 90 minutes in the Copa del Rey on October 29 and the Mexico friendly against Chile on October 7.

Rodrigo Huescas (FC Copenhagen) returned to action after a year out due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He has regained a starting role at Copenhagen and recorded an assist in the Danish Cup.

Kévin Álvarez (América) has played 11 Liga MX matches, with one goal and three assists, and recovered minutes in October, starting recent games against Pachuca and Toluca after alternating between starting and coming off the bench.

César Montes (Lokomotiv Moscow) has had a season affected by muscle discomfort. He has five league appearances and one goal, but stayed on the bench against Rostov and had no action against Spartak Moscow on November 1, so he arrives with a lack of recent continuity.

Israel Reyes (América) has 10 matches and close to 700 minutes in the Apertura 2026. His ability to play as a center-back or right-back gives Márquez a versatile option, although his playing time has been split between those positions.

Diego Campillo (Chivas) has established himself in Gabriel Milito’s system. In his first 11 Apertura 2026 matches he started 10 and accumulated 867 minutes, also scoring against Tijuana.

His usual role as a sweeper allows him to contribute to build-up play. Johan Vásquez (Genoa) is one of the Mexicans with the most continuity in Europe.

He has started nine matches, totaling 791 minutes and one goal in Serie A 2026-27, and wears the captain’s armband for Genoa, playing the full 90 minutes in the win against Lecce.

Jesús Orozco (Cruz Azul) has regained prominence with La Máquina. He has 13 matches, 1,043 minutes, one goal and one assist in the Apertura 2026, playing full matches in recent games against Querétaro and León and taking part in the win over Pachuca.

Jesús Gallardo (Toluca) remains among the players used by the Diablos Rojos, with 12 matches, 970 minutes, one goal and one assist in the championship. His international experience and ability to cover the entire left flank keep him among Mexico’s options.

Mateo Chávez (AZ Alkmaar) started the season as a starter in his first 10 Eredivisie matches and has surpassed 800 minutes in the Dutch league. He came off the bench against Ajax and continues to feature in the Europa League.

Gilberto Mora (Tijuana), an 18-year-old midfielder, has five goals and one assist in nine championship matches, although physical problems have limited his continuity. He returned against América and played 45 minutes against Monterrey as part of a plan to regain his competitive rhythm.

Erick Sánchez (América) has 15 matches, two goals and two assists in the Apertura 2026. He has regained prominence on the team that leads the standings, contributing both to ball recovery and to arriving in the opponent’s box.

Santiago Sandoval (Chivas) has increased his offensive output during the tournament, accumulating five goals in the Apertura 2026 and scoring a brace against Atlante. Gabriel Milito has used him in various attacking positions, including as a false nine.

Erik Lira (Cruz Azul) has 12 matches, 927 minutes, one goal and one assist in the championship. He played full matches in his last four Liga MX games against Juárez, Pachuca, Querétaro and León, with constant involvement in ball recovery and circulation.

Luis Romo (Chivas) has 11 starts, 964 minutes and two assists, and is part of the defensive and build-up structure of Guadalajara, which shares the top of Liga MX with América and Cruz Azul, all with 29 points.

Obed Vargas (Atlético de Madrid) is going through a period of limited playing time under Diego Simeone. Until late October he had not played any minutes in LaLiga 2026-27 and had only 12 minutes in the Champions League, after coming on against Stuttgart.

Álvaro Fidalgo (Real Betis), a former América player, has also not established himself in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup. He has about 95 minutes between LaLiga and the Champions League and was left out of the November 4 match against Borussia Dortmund due to a viral illness.

Andrés Montaño (Cruz Azul) is on a streak of five consecutive matches with a goal, something no Mexican had achieved with Cruz Azul this century. He has also accumulated seven straight matches with direct goal involvement, with five goals and three assists in that span.

Isaías Violante (América) has played 12 Apertura 2026 matches, with one goal and two assists, alternating starts and bench appearances, and was involved on the scoreboard during América’s draw against Tijuana.

Roberto Alvarado (Chivas) has five goals and two assists in the Apertura 2026 and has been a constant presence in Gabriel Milito’s team, starting in nearly all of his league matches. Armando León (NK Osijek) has made his way in Croatian football, with six goals and one assist in 12 league matches.

He has started 11 games and ranks among the championship’s leading scorers, figures that accompany his first call-up to the senior national team. Armando González (Olympiacos), a former Chivas striker, continues to adapt to Greek football.

He has scored in the Europa League and has three goals in the Greek Cup but has yet to score in the league; on November 4 he started and played 59 minutes against Rennes.

Santiago Giménez (FC Porto) has regained playing time in recent weeks, with two official goals in 196 minutes and his first assist for Porto in the 4-1 win over Napoli in the Champions League on November 4. Julián Quiñones (Al-Qadisiya) arrives as one of the principal attacking references in the squad.

He has 40 goals in calendar year 2026 across club and country, six goals in the Saudi league, and scored a brace against Al-Gharafa in the Asian Champions League on November 2.

Jesús Corona (Monterrey) returns to the national team after more than four years away. In the Apertura 2026 he has 13 matches, 11 starts, two goals and two assists.

His last match with Mexico was against Ecuador on June 5, 2022. Alexis Vega (Toluca) returns to the Tricolor with five goals and two assists in 13 Liga MX matches.

His most recent goal came against América on October 31, when he came on as a substitute and helped the Diablos Rojos secure a 2-2 draw.

Rafael Márquez’s squad reflects significant differences in the playing activity of the players who will contest the qualifier against Jamaica. Quiñones, Johan Vásquez, Raúl Rangel and Andrés Montaño arrive with statistics and continuity that support their selection, while others will try to use the international matches to regain rhythm and prominence.
