Mexico 2027 federal expenditure budget committee approval: The Budget and Public Account Committee of Mexico's Chamber of Deputies approved the 2027 Federal Expenditure Budget in general, with 33 votes in favor and 12 against, on a plan of 10.6 trillion pesos in spending.

Mexico 2027 federal expenditure budget committee approval, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): After six rounds of debate for and against, the Budget and Public Account Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved in general the 2027 Federal Expenditure Budget (PEF) draft, with 33 votes in favor, 12 against and no abstentions.

The proposal sets total spending at 10.6 trillion pesos, with real growth between 1.5% and 2.5%. It assumes an average oil price of 61.8 dollars per barrel, an average exchange rate of 18 pesos per dollar and cumulative inflation of 3%.

Reginaldo Sandoval Flores, coordinator of the Labor Party (PT), highlighted health and education spending. He said the education sector would receive 579 billion pesos, with the Ministry of Public Education rising 7.12%, and that IMSS Bienestar would receive 194 billion pesos, an increase of 9.9%.

He also cited a 13.4% increase for agriculture and rural development.

Héctor Saúl Téllez Hernández of the National Action Party (PAN) criticized the budget as inertial and burdensome for Mexican families. He argued that current spending would grow by 4.46 trillion pesos and that public debt financing of 1.7 trillion pesos would largely go toward interest payments, while real growth of only 0.3% reflected tight public finances.

Sonia Rincón Chanona of the ruling Morena party argued that the budget prioritizes social support, education, health and housing, and said more than 13.4 million people have left poverty. Mario Zamora Gastelum of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) said he would vote against the measure, citing insufficient funding for search commissions, which support families searching for missing relatives, as well as farmers, fishers and health and education services.

He said the PRI would present reservations reflecting public concerns.
