Claudia Sheinbaum APEC summit China meeting plans, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum told reporters that she will seek a meeting with her U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
The offer depends on whether Trump confirms he will attend the economic gathering in China in the coming weeks.
“We do not yet have certainty that President Trump will go. If he goes, of course we are interested in meeting with him.
How long he stays there will depend, but there is still no confirmation that he will attend this meeting,” she explained.
Sheinbaum confirmed in September that she would attend APEC, mainly because Mexico will host the economic meeting at its next edition in 2028. This year’s APEC summit will take place November 18 and 19 in Shenzhen, China.
The president said she will leave the country early on Sunday, November 15, and will return before November 20 to take part in the commemoration of the Mexican Revolution. During her absence, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Interior Ministry (Segob), will lead the morning press conferences, known during the previous administration as the “mañaneras.”
“I hope to connect with you at some moments, but we will be away practically the whole week because it is practically two days of flying,” she said.
According to Sheinbaum, the trip involves two days of flying and, “with the time change, we will be there Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we return to be here in the early morning of November 20.”
Regarding her plans at APEC, she said several bilateral meetings are already scheduled but did not specify with whom or from which countries. She did confirm that she will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as with other Chinese officials.
