Mexico State Anti-Extortion Operation Arrests 32 and Seizes 178,000 Liters of LP Gas, Digi Mart USA News (Estado de México, Mexico): A total of 32 people were arrested during 38 simultaneous operations in the Estado de México as part of a strategy to combat extortion, homicides and other violent crimes, according to Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch.
Harfuch announced the results in a social media post and said the deployments were carried out on the instructions of President Claudia Sheinbaum, with the support of Mexiquense Governor Delfina Gómez. Elements of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard and the National Intelligence Center took part in coordination with state and municipal authorities.
Among those detained are three individuals identified as “Miky Juárez,” “El Gigan” and “El Pollo,” whom authorities describe as alleged leaders of groups linked to extortion, drug offenses and the illicit sale of LP gas. Two Nezahualcóyotl municipal police officers were also detained in connection with the investigations.
Harfuch said the operations allowed authorities to intervene in criminal structures and their possible protection networks at several locations across the Estado de México. One deployment targeted the criminal organization known as “Los Gigan,” which authorities link to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
According to the security secretary, that operation was the result of seven months of investigation.
During the operations, authorities seized firearms, narcotics and vehicles, along with approximately 178,000 liters of LP gas, which are allegedly linked to the illicit trade in this fuel. The 38 operations involved federal and state agencies, including the SSPC, Defense, the Navy, FGR, the National Guard, the National Intelligence Center, the State Public Security Secretariat and the Mexiquense Prosecutor’s Office.
Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and municipal authorities also collaborated.
In reporting the results, Harfuch said the federal government will continue its actions against criminal structures, their resources and their protection networks. He warned that no public office or union facade should be used as protection for committing crimes.
