DWP One Login expansion for PIP claimants and other benefits, Digi Mart USA News: The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed it is expanding a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) perk to other benefits, according to a report published by Yorkshire Live. The DWP will work on rolling out a One Login change for other benefits claimants as well as those on PIP, the report said, citing Birmingham Live.
Martin Wrigley, a Liberal Democrats MP for Newton Abbot, asked the Cabinet Office in the Commons last week whether it would assess the adequacy of the One Login system for people with difficulties using it, such as difficulties confirming their identity. Stephanie Peacock answered for the government, saying the Labour Party Government is committed to making GOV.UK One Login as accessible as possible while protecting users and the government from the risks of fraud.
Peacock said GOV.UK One Login offers multiple ways for users to prove their identity, including through the app, online security questions or in person via the Post Office. She added that the government is expanding these options, including a new option launching next year that will allow users to prove their identity by securely logging into their bank account.
Peacock also said people receiving Personal Independence Payment can already use information about their benefit to help prove their identity, and that the government is working with the DWP to extend this to a wider range of benefits. Where users cannot or choose not to use GOV.UK One Login, government services are required to provide alternative routes.
Benefits and Work, a disability forum, said there are various ways to create an account. The simplest option is probably a valid photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence, and a smartphone.
People without those may still be able to register using bank or building society account details and their National Insurance number, the forum said, adding that users can check their benefits once registered and logged in.
