Abelina López defends Guadalupe Taddei, questions INE audio recordings, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): Acapulco Mayor Abelina López Rodríguez defended former National Electoral Institute (INE) president Guadalupe Taddei by questioning the authenticity of videos and audio recordings that link her to alleged corruption schemes. The mayor said the materials may have been manipulated or generated using artificial intelligence (AI), and she rejected claims that lack adequate legal documentary support.
Speaking with members of the media, the Morena-affiliated mayor said she would wait for the determinations of the competent authorities before issuing a final judgment on the recordings. López Rodríguez welcomed Taddei’s resignation from the electoral body as a favorable step for the progress of the investigations, and said she had previously been the victim of similar digital fabrications.
The audiovisual materials, published mainly by the outlet Latinus, show private meetings, trips and conversations between Guadalupe Taddei and businessman José Alfredo Hernández Casillas, a supplier of goods and services to the electoral institute. The recordings reportedly address agreements on dividing profits from public contracts awarded by the INE.
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo distanced her administration and the Morena party from Taddei’s record, stating that findings with possible criminal liability must be referred to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), while administrative violations fall under the Federal Administrative Justice Court. The INE has begun a collegial review of its procurement processes and reported the departure of 30 officials following its head’s resignation.
Institutional investigations continue under the INE’s ten councilor offices and the General Executive Board, while judicial bodies will determine the authenticity of the evidence.
