Hidalgo tourism promotion in Durango, Digi Mart USA News (Durango, Mexico): Hidalgo’s Secretary of Tourism, Elizabeth Quintanar, visited Durango on November 4 to promote the tourist attractions of her state and strengthen collaboration between the two states. The goal is to increase domestic tourism and facilitate the exchange of visitors.
During her visit, the official noted that Hidalgo has improved air connectivity through the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), with flights that reach Durango in approximately one hour and 15 minutes. Quintanar said this connection offers residents of central Mexico the chance to discover Durango’s natural, cultural and gastronomic attractions, while Durango residents can explore what Hidalgo has to offer.
Quintanar explained that the airport is about 25 to 35 minutes from Pachuca, Hidalgo’s capital, from which visitors can reach the state’s nine Pueblos Mágicos. She added that coordination between the two states’ tourism secretariats has enabled joint promotional strategies aimed at strengthening domestic tourism and showcasing Mexico’s cultural diversity.
The official highlighted differences between the two states, particularly in gastronomy, customs, climate and landscapes. While Hidalgo has mountains and traditions tied to its Indigenous peoples, Durango offers desert scenery and a distinct cultural identity.
She also invited Durango residents to experience Hidalgo’s traditions, including patron saint celebrations, Día de Muertos and ceremonies of Indigenous communities where ancestral practices remain alive.
Quintanar said community tourism is one of Hidalgo’s main attractions, since the traditions of its Indigenous peoples are part of everyday life and not only activities staged for visitors. She also said the possible arrival of new airlines and competition between carriers could help reduce flight costs.
According to her, during peak seasons round-trip tickets can reach between 2,000 and 4,000 pesos, so greater air capacity would make travel between Durango and Hidalgo easier.
Through this promotion, both states aim to strengthen ties between them and expand opportunities for domestic tourism.
