Esteban Capilla France rugby debut, Digi Mart USA News: French rugby is facing another setback as the XV de France prepares for its first Nations Championship match against Fiji, scheduled for Saturday in Lyon. The squad has been dealt a new blow with the withdrawal of flanker Oscar Jegou of Stade Rochelais, who was injured in the ribs during Wednesday’s training session and will not be available for the match.
Jegou, 23, already has 15 caps and was expected to be named among the replacements in the squad that coach Fabien Galthié was due to announce Thursday morning. The last-minute injury forces a change to the coach’s plans.
According to Rugbyrama, Jegou was forced to withdraw after being struck in the ribs during Wednesday’s training session. Aviron Bayonnais flanker Esteban Capilla is expected to take his place in the squad.
The Basque player is set to experience a significant milestone early in his career by playing his first match in a France jersey. Capilla has already been called up several times for training camps and tours with the Bleus but has yet to earn his first cap.
He could take a place on the bench against Fiji on Saturday evening in Lyon, the opening autumn fixture of the Nations Championship.
