Guadalajara airport unlicensed taxis, Digi Mart USA News (Guadalajara, Mexico): Unlicensed taxis continue to pose a problem at the Guadalajara International Airport, where at least one complaint is received every day involving irregular transport, luggage theft or improper charges to passengers.
Raúl Revueltas, director of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), acknowledged that complaints arrive through phone calls, assistance desks and social media, although he believes the actual number of incidents could be higher.
Revueltas explained that irregular vehicles continue to approach airport facilities in Guadalajara despite surveillance operations carried out by the National Guard and federal and state transport authorities. Although authorities have removed units offering unauthorized services, these vehicles tend to return to the area around the air terminal.
Revueltas also said it is necessary to reduce travelers’ demand for these transport services.
“At least one call a day […] complaining about unlicensed taxis, stolen suitcases or improper charges,” Revueltas said, noting that this figure reflects only reports received by the airport.
The complaints include problems with transport services and travelers’ belongings. However, the GAP director warned that more cases may exist that are never recorded through the available reporting channels.
Revueltas proposed amending the Federal Motor Transport Law to allow app-based services such as Uber to operate legally at airports, provided they meet requirements set by the relevant authorities. He said it is necessary to continue discussions with lawmakers to establish clear rules, oversight and insurance for these vehicles.
The proposal aims to organize airport transport and offer regulated alternatives to passengers.
