Atarashii Gakko interview Mexico tour, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): Japanese pop has been gaining ground worldwide, even as K-pop dominates much of the global music industry. Among the groups leading that rise is Atarashii Gakko, which has a significant fanbase in Mexico City.
The relationship between the Japanese quartet and Mexican audiences is relatively new. The group’s first appearance in Mexico came at Corona Capital 2023, where the act led by Suzuka delivered one of the most surprising and energetic performances of that edition of the festival.
The performance stood out at a festival dominated by indie rock, alternative rock and related subgenres. According to the source, fans who came only to see Atarashii Gakko showed how eagerly the project was anticipated in Mexico, especially given its several years of career by that point.
Following the festival, the group returned to Mexico City for its first solo show at the Pepsi Center, further strengthening its connection with the country. The source reports that the group finds Mexican identity and culture inspiring.
In an interview conducted in Japan in August 2026, member Mizyu said she loves Mexican food. She noted that the group first tried it in Los Angeles but that it does not compare with authentic Mexican cooking made in Mexico.
Suzuka, meanwhile, said she is fascinated by the life and work of painter Frida Kahlo and has watched several documentaries about her.
The editor’s note states that Kanon did not appear in the interview because she experienced a physical discomfort before a show.
Atarashii Gakko returns to Mexico City for a concert on December 8 at the Velódromo Olímpico, part of its first Latin American tour. Tickets are available through the publisher’s linked ticketing source.
