Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas tribute in Michoacán Congress, Digi Mart USA News (Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico): During an extraordinary session of the Michoacán State Congress on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, PRD parliamentary group deputy Octavio Ocampo recognized the late Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano for his contribution to building democracy in Mexico. Ocampo expressed respect and gratitude for Cárdenas’s memory, his struggle, and his commitment to social causes.
Ocampo said Cárdenas acted with consistency even when it meant confronting the political power of his time and giving up the privileges offered by the political system. He stated that Cárdenas could have remained within the structures of the political party he belonged to, but chose instead to lead, alongside many others, a struggle to open spaces for democracy and greater citizen participation in national decisions.
The deputy said Cárdenas’s life should serve as a reminder that democratic change does not happen overnight and requires perseverance, conviction, and above all, citizen participation. He noted that Mexico today is different from the country in which Cárdenas began his struggle, and that many of these changes relate to causes he defended.
Ocampo added that, regardless of differing views on Cárdenas’s actions throughout his life, his historical contribution should be recognized. He concluded that the PRD joins in bidding farewell with respect to a Michoacán native who dedicated his life to Mexico, left a profound mark on national history, and whose struggle helped millions of Mexicans find a voice and a place in the country’s democratic life.
