Mexico tourism GDP growth second quarter 2026, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City, Mexico): Mexico’s tourism activity maintained a growth trend during the second quarter of 2026, a period in which Tourism Gross Domestic Product (GDP) recorded an annual increase of 0.8% and a rise of 0.4% compared with the immediately preceding quarter, according to federal Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.
The results were published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) through the Quarterly Tourism Activity Indicator (ITAT). They reflect the favorable performance of the sector and its contribution to the national economy.
The secretary stated that tourism continues to generate economic movement, jobs and opportunities for Mexican families, while strengthening productive activities in different regions of the country.
Tourism spending also shows growth. Another indicator with positive results was Domestic Tourism Consumption, which measures spending by domestic and international visitors within Mexican territory.
According to Inegi, this component grew 0.4% on an annual basis and 0.1% compared with the first quarter of 2026.
Rodríguez Zamora explained that both indicators allow evaluation of the tourism industry’s economic performance, both in terms of its contribution to GDP and the spending of those who visit the country’s various destinations.
Tourism as a driver of opportunities for communities. The secretary noted that these results are relevant amid an international scenario marked by economic transformations and challenges, in which Mexico has maintained the dynamism of its tourism activity.
She emphasized that the goal is to consolidate the country’s competitiveness as an international destination and ensure that the industry’s benefits reach more people socially.
She maintained that tourism growth should be reflected in better conditions for families and communities that depend directly or indirectly on this activity. She also reiterated that, in line with instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the Government of Mexico seeks to broaden the distribution of the sector’s economic benefits so that shared prosperity reaches more regions of the national territory.
