Mexico and Spain bilateral relations new phase, Digi Mart USA News (Madrid, Spain): Mexico and Spain have highlighted the advance of a new phase in their bilateral relationship following a meeting between their foreign ministers, Roberto Velasco Álvarez and José Manuel Albares, held within the framework of the XXX Ibero-American Summit in Madrid.

During the meeting, both officials agreed that relations between the two countries have strengthened over the past year, particularly in the political, economic and cultural spheres. Spain’s foreign minister said Mexico and Spain have reinforced their ties for the benefit of their peoples and expressed interest in maintaining the course of cooperation and understanding between the two nations.

For his part, Velasco praised the closeness and trust existing between both governments and noted the good rapport between Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The Mexican foreign minister said this relationship allows for a constructive agenda aimed at producing results and strengthening friendship between the two countries.

The meeting follows a period of diplomatic tensions related to Mexico’s earlier request for recognition of and apology for wrongs committed during the Conquest. In recent months, however, rapprochement efforts have helped improve bilateral dialogue, including a meeting in June between President Sheinbaum and King Felipe VI at the National Palace.

The ministers’ meeting is part of activities at the Ibero-American Summit, held on November 4 and 5 in Madrid, where Mexico is represented by a delegation led by Roberto Velasco on behalf of the Mexican president.

Both governments expressed willingness to continue strengthening cooperation, dialogue and the historical ties that unite Mexico and Spain.
