Thierry Henry racist attack Trappes tribute, Digi Mart USA News: Viewers of CBS were likely not expecting this during a Champions League broadcast. Thierry Henry, a consultant for the American network and a former French international with 123 caps and 41 goals, used his airtime to address the racially motivated attack that took place in Trappes on October 23.
Henry paid tribute to the victims, in particular Pengo Bosso Wangi, who was killed that day. “I simply want to pay tribute and show my respect to the families of the victims, and obviously to Pengo’s family, who lost his life simply because he was Black,” he said.
Visibly moved, the former Arsenal star went on to make a powerful statement about racism and belonging to the French people. “At some point, enough is enough.
We walk down the street and we get killed, simply. Do we, or do I, always have to prove that we are French?
We are French and that will never change, whatever happens,” he said.
Henry, who grew up in Les Ulis in Essonne, added: “I am Black, I am French, I am a father. It could have been my brother, it could have been my daughter.
So this must stop.” The 1998 World Cup winner’s remarks were warmly applauded by his studio colleagues, former English footballers Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards.
