Benito Juárez park security guardaparques, Digi Mart USA News (Benito Juárez, Mexico City): Mayor Luis Mendoza Acevedo said Benito Juárez remains the safest borough in Mexico City and announced a new security strategy for the district’s parks. He said police officers, to be called guardaparques, will be placed in all parks in the borough to increase contact with residents.
In a press conference, the mayor said the Encuesta Nacional de Seguridad Pública Urbana (ENSU) from Inegi ranks the borough second nationally in perceived security and first in Mexico City and its metropolitan area. He attributed the results to constant work and an annual investment of approximately 300 million pesos through the Blindar BJ 360 program.
Mendoza Acevedo told the publication that the guardaparques would be deployed in roughly one month or one and a half months. The patrol officers would work around the clock in the parks and use all-terrain vehicles such as quad bikes and ATVs to protect families and visitors.
The mayor said the measure aims to address points where residents gather and to serve people who use public spaces late at night. He added that the preventive scheme also includes urban elements such as lighting and tree pruning, alongside closer contact with the community.
On video surveillance and monitoring, the mayor highlighted continued coordination with the Government of Mexico City and the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC). He said this cooperation has helped optimize the operation and integration of C5 cameras with the Blindar BJ infrastructure.
