Esteban Ocon Haas F1 season exit Rafael Camara São Paulo, Digi Mart USA News: Brazilian driver Rafael Camara, a Ferrari academy driver and leader of the Formula 2 standings, will race for the Haas Formula 1 team at the upcoming São Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil. The team confirmed that Frenchman Esteban Ocon will no longer compete for them this year.
During the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, Ocon, who had already announced he would leave Haas at the end of the season, was replaced by reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa. The Japanese driver finished tenth in Mexico and scored one point in his first race with the team.
Hirakawa’s prior commitments at this weekend’s World Endurance Championship have opened the door for Camara, who is under contract with Haas for 2027, to make his Formula 1 debut earlier than planned. Camara has several years of experience in the lower formulas, winning titles in the European Formula Regional championship and Formula 3.
He also made a strong impression behind the wheel of the Haas car during a previous-generation car test session in August, according to the World Championship website.
