Pope Leo XIV Mexico trip clarification, Digi Mart USA News: The Vatican has clarified that Pope Leo XIV does not have any apostolic trip to Mexico confirmed, after confusion arose over a planned visit to a parish dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe. The parish is located in Montevideo, Uruguay, as part of the pope’s upcoming tour of South America.
The Holy See’s spokesperson, speaking through representatives of accredited journalists, specified that the reference corresponded to a church in a low-income neighborhood of the Uruguayan capital, not a temple in Mexican territory. According to the Vatican’s clarification, Pope Leo XIV will visit the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Montevideo this weekend during his tour of South America.
The Holy See emphasized that there is currently no official confirmation of a papal visit to Mexico, so information about the parish should not be interpreted as an announcement of travel to the country.
The apostolic tour will begin this Friday, November 6, and includes visits to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru. Over the 11 days of travel, the pope has scheduled 50 activities, meetings with three presidents, and 14 flights to move between destinations.
The trip will take place less than a month after surgery the pope underwent for lung cancer, amid a schedule that includes numerous official and religious commitments.
