Pope Leo XIV visit to Mexico Basilica of Guadalupe, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): The new prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, María Montserrat Alvarado, has confirmed that Pope Leo XIV will visit Mexico. Her statement was reported by López-Dóriga Digital.
Alvarado said, “The Holy Father will go to see Our Lady of Guadalupe.” Presenting the program of Pope Leo XIV’s trip through Central America, she said the pontiff will visit the Basilica of Guadalupe during his stop in Mexico.
Asked about the date, Alvarado said she would be the first to announce the trip when the time comes. The visit is presumed to take place in 2027, since the Guadalupan Jubilee Year began in October, marking the 50th anniversary of the consecration of the new Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Pope Leo XIV has expressed his desire to visit the country. In June, he said, “We will see, I hope it does not take too long.”
For her part, President Claudia Sheinbaum said her government is in contact with the Vatican to arrange a visit by the Holy Father to the country. She noted that although Mexico is a secular state, her government recognizes the pope as the representative of a state, and that most Mexicans are Catholic.
Sheinbaum also said the current pope has expressed his position on the pacification of the world and his concerns about migration, adding that they share a humanist vision of the future, “not only of Mexico, but of the entire world.”
