Mexican figure skating continues to win high-impact international titles. After more than twelve months of uninterrupted preparation, consistent technical rigor and training sessions of more than six hours a day, the Mexican delegation made history by ranking among the countries with the most medals at the 4th Latin American Regional Interclub Figure Skating Competition 2026, held at the Arena ICE rink in São Paulo, Brazil.

The prestigious competition brings together leading clubs from established and emerging powers in the region, including representatives from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Costa Rica. Competitors took part under the sanction of the Mexican Figure Skating and Winter Sports Federation (Femepashidi) and the development program of the International Skating Union (ISU).

At this continental showcase, each athlete represented not only their nation’s flag but also the honor of their sports club.

Paula Sofía Peña Almaraz emerged as one of the standout performers of the Mexican contingent. She won first place in the competitive Advanced Basic category with a program of high technical demand, notable fluidity and an elegance that impressed the international panel of judges and the audience at the Arena ICE.

Her victory represented not only a gold medal for Mexico but also confirmed the talent from Querétaro on international stages, positioning her as one of the athletes with the greatest potential in winter sports in the country.

Much of Mexico’s success in the overall medal table came from the Eden Ice delegation, based in the city of Querétaro. Guided tactically by head coach Mike Gilpin, coach Daniela Guzmán, teacher Montserrat Luque for the adult division, and professional coaching from two-time Mexican Olympic figure skater Ricardo Olavarrieta, the Querétaro team contributed a total of 12 medals to the national contingent: eight gold, three silver and one bronze.

The gold medalists (first place), silver medalists (second place) and bronze medalist (third place) of the Eden Ice delegation from Querétaro include Paloma Paz Morado, who took silver in the Adults Silver category. Jimena Jiménez González placed fourth in the Pre-preliminary category.

The victory in São Paulo represents not only a milestone in the history of the Eden Ice academy but also confirms Querétaro as a leading state in developing high-performance athletes in ice sports, following in the footsteps of iconic figures in the discipline such as Donovan Carrillo. The joint effort of the skaters, coaches and the support of their families has raised the profile of Querétaro and reinforced Mexico as the dominant power in club figure skating in Latin America.
