Heavy rain and thunderstorms in southern France, Météo-France yellow alerts, Digi Mart USA News (France): Météo-France has activated yellow weather alerts for rain-flooding and thunderstorms starting Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The cause is a Mediterranean weather system expected to persist over Languedoc-Roussillon and the south of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
Although the position of the heaviest rainfall totals remains uncertain, the departments of Hérault and Gard are expected to be the most affected, according to meteorologist and oceanographer Yann Amice, writing on actu.fr. The system could also bring locally strong thunderstorms.
The east of Corsica is also expected to face heavy precipitation on Thursday, November 5. Météo-France had already placed five departments on alert from 4 p.m.
on Tuesday.
The departments under yellow alert for Wednesday, November 4 are Bouches-du-Rhône (wind, rain-flooding, thunderstorms), Corse-du-Sud and Haute-Corse (rain-flooding, thunderstorms), and Gard and Hérault (rain-flooding, thunderstorms).
Rain moving north from the Mediterranean overnight Tuesday into Wednesday will spread across Corsica, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Languedoc-Roussillon and the south of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The ground is already saturated from previous intense rainfall, raising the risk of flooding.
From southern Provence to Languedoc, the rain will be persistent and stormy, particularly from the Rhône delta to the coastline of Gard and Hérault, where significant totals are expected. Totals are generally forecast at 30 to 50 millimeters from Roussillon to Provence, and locally 70 to 90 millimeters along the Hérault and Gard coast.
The bad weather will also bring fairly strong easterly winds along coastal departments, gusting 60 to 80 kilometers per hour, and up to 90 kilometers per hour along the Provence coast. In Corsica, rainfall will intensify, especially late Wednesday in the east and over the island’s relief.
Snow is also forecast in mountain areas, with some snowfall Wednesday above 1,500 meters in the Alps and southern Massif Central.
Temperatures will remain below seasonal averages all week, with a sharp, fresh easterly wind over the northern third of the country, gusting 40 to 50 kilometers per hour and locally 60 kilometers per hour along the Channel coasts. On Tuesday, November 2, temperatures dropped to -4 °C in Die (Drôme), -2 °C in Montluçon (Allier), -1 °C in Villefranche-de-Rouergue (Aveyron) and -0.5 °C in Dax (Landes).
Auch (Gers) recorded its first frost of the season overnight, with a minimum of -0.6 °C, which Météo-France described as relatively early compared with the 1985–2025 average date of November 12.
This first week of November is expected to be generally cool across the country, with weekly average temperatures 1 °C to 3 °C below normal.
