Mexico storms, USA News (Mexico): Heavy rains and severe flooding struck northwest Mexico, sweeping multiple automobiles into the sea and prompting the rescue of at least 41 individuals. According to reports citing Clarín, one person died as a result of the storm system, which consisted of remnants from tropical storm Vance after it dissipated on Thursday.
The downpour unleashed a fierce amount of water reaching 120 millimeters in just 45 minutes, surprising residents across Guaymas and Los Cabos. The most severe impacts unfolded in Los Cabos, where footage on social media showed vehicles literally devoured by the sea, while others were left stranded directly on the beach.
The government of Baja California Sur confirmed an intense flow of water descending from elevated areas alongside the single reported fatality. Local media outlets indicated that the victim was inside a taxi that was swept away by a rushing current of water and mud in Guaymas.
The National Coordination of Civil Protection reported that 41 people were rescued from high-risk areas while 18 vehicles sustained damage from the rushing water currents. The Las Palmas stream dragged at least a dozen vehicles away in Guaymas. Meanwhile, authorities evacuated a family medicine clinic in Los Cabos housing 356 individuals, which included patients and medical staff, supported by at least 60 rescue personnel and ambulances.
Civil Protection urged residents not to cross streams, fords, or flooded streets either on foot or by vehicle, warning that water currents can rise rapidly even after rainfall begins to subside.
