Jean-Baptiste Marteau, USA News (New York): Rather than relaxing on a sunny beach during his vacation, journalist Jean-Baptiste Marteau spent his time participating in the renowned New York marathon held on Sunday, November 1. The news presenter has been filling in as the host of the France 2 20 Heures newscast since August, following the departure of Léa Salamé due to her partner Raphaël Glucksmann’s presidential election candidacy. Marteau and his partner decided to take on the famous race right before the anchor resumes his broadcasting duties on Monday, November 2.
After crossing the finish line, the runner shared his achievement on Instagram, writing, Finisher! 3h4235. Exhausted. Memorable New York marathon! He also posted a video showing visible difficulty walking after completing the grueling course, indicating he will need time to recover before returning to regular athletic activities.
The couple is no stranger to long-distance running. In mid-September, Marteau announced on social media that his dream was becoming a reality after having previously run two other marathons, shortly before participating in the Rome half-marathon. The pair also ran the Paris marathon together last year.
Upon returning from New York, the journalist received numerous congratulatory messages from colleagues and friends in his publication’s comments section. Public figures including Élodie Gossuin, Damien Thévenot, Caroline Roux, Cristina Cordula, and Bruno Guillon expressed their admiration. Aurélie Casse, who presented the 20 Heures news on France 2 the previous week as Marteau’s official substitute, also welcomed him back to the anchor chair.
