Jake Ferguson injury update Cowboys Week 9, Digi Mart USA News: The Dallas Cowboys have an injury concern with tight end Jake Ferguson in the second half of their Week 9 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Ferguson suffered a leg injury in the third quarter after he was sandwiched while taking a hit following a catch. He immediately clutched his leg after the play and appeared to be in clear pain.
Dallas Morning News reporter Joseph Hoyt wrote that Ferguson was down and holding his leg, and that he had been questionable this week with an ankle injury. Prior to leaving the game, Ferguson had two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown.
The Cowboys announced that Ferguson is questionable to return with a knee injury. Ferguson was able to walk off the field under his own power and headed to the blue tent without his helmet.
He was grabbing at his leg on the field, but the exact location of the injury was not confirmed.
Walking off under his own power suggests Ferguson may have avoided a serious injury, though the team has not provided further details. The report will be updated once more information is known.
Ferguson is having a down season and entered Week 9 with 17 catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns. The Cowboys are already short-handed at tight end, as backup Luke Schoonmaker has missed two straight games with a groin injury and the team has relied on practice squad tight end James Mitchell.
Ferguson was also dealing with an ankle issue coming into the game after suffering an injury in the Week 8 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Ferguson had a low-ankle sprain, and Ferguson practiced on a limited basis during the week before playing Sunday against the Colts.
Ferguson’s struggles have opened the door for more opportunities for Brevyn Spann-Ford.
