Romain Ntamack shoulder injury, Digi Mart USA News: The image was not especially alarming at first, but when Romain Ntamack struggled to get up and left the pitch with one arm hanging, it quickly became clear that something was wrong with the France fly-half.
The injury is the major concern of the evening, despite France’s clear 54-17 victory over Fiji in Lyon. Immediately after the match, France coach Fabien Galthié confirmed a left shoulder injury to Ntamack, saying he would not be seen again before the end of the Championship of Nations, three weeks away.
The absence is reportedly set to be even longer.
On Sunday evening, L’Équipe reported that examinations on the 27-year-old showed a dislocation of the left shoulder. His absence is expected to last around two months.
It is a blow for Ntamack and for Stade Toulousain, which will be without him until January at the earliest. For the France team, the outlook is far from encouraging.
However, if all goes well, the playmaker who partners Antoine Dupont in the backline could hope to return before the start of the Six Nations Championship (February 5 to March 13).
Even so, L’Équipe noted that the outcome could have been worse. In its words, Ntamack was fortunate that the injury was a simple dislocation without fracture, which should considerably shorten his recovery and rehabilitation time.
