PBS Kids Arthur 30th anniversary, Digi Mart USA News: PBS Kids is celebrating Arthur as the children’s show marks 30 years since its premiere in October 1996 and its rise to cultural phenomenon status.

The long-running animated series, based on Marc Brown’s Arthur Adventure children’s book series, follows Arthur Read, his best friend Buster, his sister D.W. and others in the fictional town of Elwood City.

The show’s official Instagram account marked the occasion, writing, “30 years ago, we premiered on @PBSKIDS, and it’s been a wonderful kind of time since.”

PBS Kids is running a marathon of fan-favorite episodes on Nov. 7 and 8 to mark the anniversary. Although technically a children’s show, Arthur addressed a wide range of topics, including the struggles of growing up, family dynamics, mental health conditions and the importance of getting a library card.

The series ran for a record-breaking 25 seasons with more than 250 episodes before ending in 2022. At the time, Arthur was the longest-running children’s show in the U.S.

The final episode, “All Grown Up,” jumped forward up to 20 years to show where Arthur and his friends had ended up.

In that finale, Arthur became a graphic novelist, and the series revealed that the show itself had been his memoir all along. Buster is now a teacher, D.W.

is a police officer, Muffy is running for mayor of Elwood City, and Binky appears in new programming.

Author Marc Brown told E! News in 2022 that he was amazed that viewers who grew up with the show were using the characters’ personalities as references in their social media posts.

“The fact that they’re using a character’s personality as a reference point in their social media, I find that very interesting,” he said. “And it makes me pleased that these characters have become that iconic that other people understand what they’re saying.”
