Ken Salazar Mexico opportunity after Democratic midterm victory, Digi Mart USA News (Denver, Colorado): Former U.S. ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar welcomed the Democratic Party’s victory in the U.S.
midterm elections, saying the result represents a “moment of opportunity” to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the United States and Mexico.
Speaking at a remote press conference from Denver, Colorado, Salazar said the Democratic candidates’ gains would matter only if they produce results that benefit the Latino community living in the United States. He said the winners were good people and expressed hope that the government of Mexico, and especially the Mexican people, would support the changes.
Salazar said he did not know what position President Donald Trump would take. He added that laws would be passed through Congress, where the Democrats hold a majority, and expressed confidence that the trade negotiation under the USMCA, known in Mexico as T-MEC, would continue because it is important to both countries.
