Mexican Senate receives Cuban ambassador, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): The Senate of the Republic received a visit from Eugenio Martínez Enríquez, Cuba’s ambassador to Mexico, where the Cuban government’s humanitarian support for the island was highlighted.
Higinio Martínez Miranda, president of the Senate’s Mesa Directiva, said Mexico’s position is one of support for the Cuban government in light of the embargo it faces from the United States. He recalled that the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum has sent support to the Cuban people, especially oil shipments.
“A nation cannot be treated the way Cuba is being treated,” Martínez Miranda criticized. He insisted that Mexico’s relations with other countries are based on the self-determination of peoples, and noted the many years of ties linking the Mexican Congress with Cuba.
“Relations between Mexico and Cuba have not been prevented from being among the best the Mexican people have had. We are friends and we are their brothers,” he said.
He added that the bonds between the two countries, dating back to the Cuban Revolution and Fidel Castro, extend across cultural, sports, economic and social areas.
For his part, Ambassador Martínez Enríquez said the relationship with Mexico is indestructible. He acknowledged that Fidel Castro, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, prepared that revolution from Mexico, where he was well received and found refuge.
The ambassador said Mexico has provided substantial support to the Cuban government in the face of a naval blockade. He underscored Mexico’s historic position against the blockade of Cuba, and stated that Cuba ratified its decision to maintain full relations with Mexico and thanked the Mexican government for its firm, important and determined solidarity with the Cuban people.
