Hyères-Toulon Var Basket Drawn Against Lyon-Villeurbanne ASVEL in French Cup Round of 16, Digi Mart USA News (France): Hyères-Toulon versus ASVEL is the headline pairing from Thursday’s draw for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. The Élite 2 club, which was exempt from the previous round, will host Lyon-Villeurbanne, currently fourth in the Élite with five wins and one defeat.
The ASVEL side is coached by Tony Parker and includes Bandol-born guard Hugo Besson. The match is provisionally scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, following a short league break, but the date remains to be confirmed.
Hyères-Toulon travels to Denain on Friday, December 4, while ASVEL plays at Olympiakos in the EuroLeague. Tuesday, December 1 at the Espace 3000 would therefore be a credible option.
William Dumas, the general manager of HTV, said: “It will be a great celebration for basketball in the Var to draw a EuroLeague club, with an iconic figure leading the team, Tony Parker. We are delighted to offer the public this gala match, hoping to put up a good showing.
We will play this one flat out, even if we are not losing sight of our objective.”
Because of the division gap, the Var side will start the match with a seven-point advantage. The game also offers a nice link for John Roberson, the Var point guard who played for ASVEL in 2017-2018, and who will face David Lighty, still with the Rhône club.
Hyères-Toulon, which previously beat two Élite clubs, Dijon and Chalon, reached the semifinals of the Coupe de France last season before being eliminated by Le Mans. Repeating that run will require a first major upset.
