Democrats win all Texas and Arizona border districts with Mexico, Digi Mart USA News (Austin, Texas, United States): Democrats recovered all electoral districts bordering the United States and Mexico, in a reversal that showed a Republican setback in a region where President Donald Trump had gained ground among Hispanic voters in 2024.
The border gains were part of a Democratic victory in Texas, where the party also recovered a Senate seat and the governorship after decades out of state power. Results showed that Republican gains among conservative Hispanic voters had practically disappeared on election day.
In some border districts, Democrats won by wide margins: in Arizona’s 7th district by more than 40 points, and in Texas’s 38th district by more than 30 points, as well as in California’s 24th and 25th districts.
In Texas’s 15th district, which stretches from the south of the state to the border area and includes part of Hidalgo County, where McAllen is located, singer Bobby Pulido won by 25 points over his Republican rival.
The victory was also clear in Texas’s 23rd district, where Democrat Katy Padilla held a lead of 8 percentage points. This district runs along much of the border between Mexico and Texas, from the El Paso area to the outskirts of San Antonio.
According to the AP VoteCast survey, which polled more than 5,000 Texans on the Senate race, Democrat James Talarico won the support of roughly six in 10 Hispanic voters and about three-quarters of voters under 30.
The result contrasted with that of just two years ago, when Trump carried Texas by a double-digit margin and Republicans expanded their support in border counties.
